Rudolph & Friends Tile Coasters

Rudolph the Red-Nose reindeer is a popular fella around my household. My mom handed down the love of the admired movie  to me and my sister (hopefully my brother too). My sister and I are now passing that same devoted love down to our small children. You see it all started almost 31 years ago, on Dec. 6th 1979. My mom was very pregnant with my older brother, her first child, and she was due any day.  She was on the couch, watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, it also happened to be her birthday. So she was watching the movie, on her birthday, nine months preggo, when her water broke.  She went into labor and had my brother the next day. And everyday since then, it has been a tradition to watch Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer when it broadcast on TV for the first of the year.  It can’t be on DVD. It has to be on television. We do own the tape and DVD, but we still have to watch it on that evening of the year. My mom made us all sit down as a family and watch it every year, even as teenagers and early twenties, my brother, sister and I had to watch that movie and listen to my mom retell the story about her going into labor with my brother during it. She usually made awesome snacks and hot chocolate. It was a big event during the holiday season at our house. So now a days, we all live in our houses, with our own families but still take the time to continue the tradition. Last night my boys went to my parent’s house for the event and watched it with my mom. There is something so fulfilling about watching my own children’s faces brighten up when watching the movie, as mine did at their age.

So that brings me to my next craft:

RUDOLPH & FRIENDS TILE COASTERS

MATERIALS NEEDED

~4 ceramic tiles
~Mod Podge (or regular glue if you don’t have it)
~Acrylic Sealer/Finisher-gloss (I picked up mine from Michaels Crafts for around $4 after I used a coupon.)
~Rudolph wrapping paper (got mine at Dollar Tree for $1)
~Scissors
~Glitter Glue (Dollar Tree also for a pack of 3 colors $1)
~Felt (Once again from Dollar Tree $1)

  1. Cut out the character of your choice. You can cut them out in a square shape, circle shape, or any other way you desire.
  2. Glue the character onto the tile. You can glue one or a few characters on each.
  3. Take the glitter glue and trace the character or make a pretty design around them.
  4. Wait until the glue is completely dry. The glitter glue I used took a long time to dry. I did them in the evening and let them dry all night.
  5. After the glue is completely dry, spray a layer or Acrylic Sealer over top of the tile. I sprayed the edges and side too. The spray I bought goes a long way. You do not use much to complete these tiles, so you will have lots afterward to use on other projects.
  6. Cut the felt in squares to fit on the bottom of each tile. Glue the felt onto the bottom of the tile. Cover the bottom of each tile with felt so that they do not scratch surfaces.

And you’re done. Enjoy on your coffee table with a nice cup of cocoa and whipped cream.

You can stack them, wrap a bow around them and they quickly become a really nice gift for the holidays!!!

Whisk Jewelry Tree

I came across a cute little project a couple weeks ago and immediately had to give it a shot. I saw it at http://www.vivelyonline.com/2010/09/jewelery-tree-stand-from-whisk.html and was inspired. It is a unique jewelry hanging tree made from a few cheap items and most importantly, a whisk. Yes, a whisk, as in a kitchen utensil. The funny thing is the exact same day I came across this I pulled my old whisk out of the drawer and noticed it rusted. I am a little bit of a hoarder and couldn't bear to throw it away, so I sat it aside in my junk drawer. Then, boom, I saw this project and knew it was meant to be. Most the items I used were around my house. All together I spent 25 cents! The shiny green decor was in the Christmas mark downs at the Dollar Tree for 25 cents-I love that store!

Materials Needed:

1 Whisk-I had mine already
1 Vase-I had this already also
Rocks or Stones-you can pick these up at the dollar store or just find them outside like I did.
Decorations-anything that shows your personality or taste
Wire Cutters (not shown)
Pliers (not shown)

1. First you will need to take the wire cutters and cut the loops on the whisk. Try to cut the loops different lengths to give it a unique look. I'm not sure what was up with my wire cutters, but it wasn't really easy to cut the loops. So be careful and take your time, and don't be afraid to ask the mister for help like I did.

2. Take you pliers and arrange the loops in your desired design.

3. If you are using pearls or anything else that needs to hang on the loops before you roll the ends, go ahead and put them on now. Pearls or beads make a great way to hold earring in place on the wires. I used little glittery styrophome balls I found at my house.

4. Next, take the pliers and roll or bend the ends of the loop wires so they aren't sharp and pointy. I actually used the same lil glittery balls on the ends so they aren't a disaster waiting to happen.

5. After completing all the wire loops, place the whisk in the vase and fill the vase with rocks or stones. This is will give the vase some weighted stability and if you are using a clear vase, it will give it some visual effect.

6. Now, decorate the vase with whatever you want. Have fun with it. Give it some spunk and spice. And TA-DA!

Home Sweet Home

Welcome to Padgett House Crafts. Please excuse the mess. We’re just moving into this blogspot.  But mi casa, su casa. Come on in, pull up a chair, and make your self at home. So this is my first post, on my first blog, the first day I opened my first etsy shop (PADGETTHOUSE.ETSY.COM) the week of my first craft show.  It's kinda a big week for me.  You see, I have always been "crafty".  I've always been the one making my sister's poster board for her school project, even though I didn't do my own homework. Or the one asked to help decorate a wedding, even though the bride doesn't even like me.  I'm the one who makes awesome Christmas gifts for some people I can't stand. All because, I love making things. When people walk through my house (on a good day when the toys are put away and the clothes are picked up) they say "Wow. Where did you get this?" or "I want one like this." but they are surprised to find out I made it myself.  I have always loved creating things and seeing people's reactions. Even if I just make something and keep it myself, I enjoy the heck out of it.  So that's what I've been doing for years. Creating & Crafting.  And now I am ready to jump full throttle into the old craft show world. This decision all happened about a week and a half ago, and my first show is in 4 days. I'm kinda spontaneous. I'm not doing it totally alone though. My hunk of a husband, Mr. Padgett is helping me. Without him, I would have no chance. So it's Tuesday, my craft show is Saturday, and I still have lots of crafts to finish, business cards to make, find a table clothe, ect. ect. ect. ect.  Oh and all those things to do are not my priority, my number one is my sons. So between the shenanigans my fav little hooligans cause, I will be working on my craft show list. Hopefully it works out, if not there’s always Home Sweet Home J
